IATA Telex Types Definition [javadude.wordpress.com]

Unlike airlines which are used to distributed operations and having systems like a reservation system hosted centrally at their hub (originating in the times of mainframe servers with access to this crucial part of their operations only via a remote connection), airports still tend to follow a much more traditional approach. Airport operations are local and and not geographically distributed like airlines, over decades they established local data-centres on-premise and created a mindset of full control only available with the server and IT services right in their basement. Along come big IT departments with teams of server-, network-, db-admins and support.

Together Let’s Build Airline

NDC (New Distribution Capability) will enable the travel industry to transform the way air products are retailed to corporations, leisure and business travelers, by addressing the industry’s current distribution limitations: product differentiation and time-to-market, access to full and rich air content and finally, transparent shopping experience.

youtube travel

Google shared some interesting figures on travel and YouTube in November showing how consumers engage with video when researching and planning trips.

The figures were from research Google carried out in late Summer with Ipsos MediaCT, and reveal that many of the reasons consumers are watching video online are often travel-related.

For example, 27% view clips to relax or escape, 45% to be entertained or inspired and 14% to pursue a hobby.

When it comes to trips and holidays, almost 50% of travellers use online video in some shape or form before they decide where to go on holiday.

  • 65% use video when thinking about taking a trip
  • 48% when thinking about the type of trip to take
  • 67% consult it when choosing a destination
  • 67% when choosing activities within a destination
  • 63% when deciding on accommodation within a destination
  • 26% when deciding which website to book on
